Dear Editor
Please allow me to bring to the attention of our readers some facts about the village named Huist-t-Dieren that is situated on the Essequibo Coast.
I wish to mention that Huis-t-Dieren has always produced many persons of quality, excellence and distinction. It has produced doctors one of whom was Dr. Prasad who was the owner of Prasads hospital. We had lawyers, great teachers, priests and pandits to mention a few.
In the political field the village produced two Ministers of Government, Dr. Mohamed Shahabuddeen, who was Attorney General in the PNC Government, and Mr. Harripersaud Nokta, Minister in the PPP Government.
To cream it now, it is with great pleasure that I wish to mention that the the First Lady Deolatchmie Ramotar, also hails from this village Huis-t-Dieren. She was the side and opposite neighbour of the two Ministers. I was at the time living a few houses away from them.
I was a litttle girl attending the primary school in the village where the First Lady was a teacher. I remember calling her Teacher Vijay as she was popularly known. Having taught for some years she then left to persue higher education in Georgetown.
On behalf of the residents of Huis-t-Dieren I wish to congratulate Mrs Deolatchmie Ramotar on the assumption of the position of First Lady of Guyana. You make us proud. Congratulations also to Mr. Donald Ramotar having being elected as the Seventh Executive President of Guyana.
Omasingh.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
