Trinidad has one of the highest suicide rates in the world
I don't understand whats going on with this issue in Trinidad
A professor Hutchinson of the UWI appears to be doing most of the talking and from him comes the note that the various collectors of suicide stats in TT: the police, hospitals, the CSO collect contradictory data and so the data is unreliable
Despite these statistics, Hutchinson said the data relating to suicide is an estimate as this information is collected by multiple agencies, including the police, the hospitals and the Forensic Science Centre and they often contradict each other.[/quote
then look at how the article in that link begins:
This places T&T at third in the region, after Guyana (44.2) and Suriname (27.
Overall, T&T ranks at number 41 out of 170 countries, with more suicides per 100,000 people than even the United States. The US is ranked at number 50.
what sort of sense can one make from that? is Trinidad experiencing more suicide deaths than Guyana..or is it the opposite?
Speaking at a workshop held at the Hilton Trinidad on Tuesday, Hutchinson revealed that more than 70 percent of suicides reported locally was due to ingesting pesticides or other poisons
