President Bharrat Jagdeo has expressed disappointment with the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) for not announcing the preliminary results of the 2011 elections held on Monday last.
The Guyanese leader made this comment during a press conference held at state house earlier today.
He noted that by now all of the political parties know the results since they have tallied up their votes after having representatives at polling stations and had signed statements of polls after the counts were done.
However, Gecom had asked that none of the parties claim victory or make an announcement prior to theirs.
The president is urging Gecom to release the preliminary results which all the parties know as soon as possible. He is of the view that Gecom has absolutely no excuse for delaying the results.
The president said the delay has caused some parties who know that they have lost the elections to start making excuses and to mobilise people around the uncertainties.
Meanwhile, regarding the rumours being peddled that there is a vacuum in leadership in Guyana, the president openly rejected such statements.
He said the constitution provides for the president to demit office when the new president is sworn in. President Jagdeo explained too that he is in direct contact with the police force which will take instructions from him until the new president takes over.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Okay...so you were the leader for how long now? Should steps have been taken to avoid such eventuality? And why is it that come every election the same problems persist?
GE-COM is more like GE-GONE.
