Two persons were killed instantly last evening when the car they were in slammed into another car at Bee Hive Public Road on the East Coast of Demerara.

Dead are 37-year-old Satyanand Harripersaud and 19-year-old, Varsha Khemraj.

Harripersaud was the driver of PSS 9153 and was traveling along the main roadway just after 10pm when he collided head on with another motor car, PTT 5270.

The driver of the other car has told investigators that the car being driven by Harripersaud was coming in the opposite direction when it suddenly swerved into his path and the two collided.

The impact of the crash sent Harripersaud’s car into a nearby canal.

According to the Police statement, Harripersaud and his lone passenger were both pulled from the wreckage in an unconscious state and pronounced dead on arrival at the Mahaicony Hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle was unhurt and tested for alcohol consumption. There was no alcohol detected in his system, but he was still taken into custody as the investigation got underway.
