Husband wants divorce after wife spends wedding night texting
A Saudi Arabian bride spent her wedding night texting her pals instead of consummating her marriage — so her husband filed for a divorce just hours after they were hitched.
The couple was sitting in a hotel room following their ceremony in Jeddah when the bride got busy with her phone, responding to congratulatory messages from her friends rather than paying attention to her new mate, Saudi media reported.
“The groom tried to get closer with her and more intimate, but he was shocked when she ignored him, not responding to his words or action,†a relative told Al Watan, a daily newspaper in Saudi. “When he asked her if her friends were more important than he was, the bride answered that they were.â€
Her response infuriated her husband, who walked out on his wife and said he was ending their short union.
A local court tried to patch things up for the newlyweds, recommending that they try to reconcile, but the unsatisfied man wouldn’t budge on his divorce demand, according to Gulf News.
Divorces are common among Saudi newlyweds, according to legal expert Ahmad Al Maabi.
“Misunderstandings, differences in view and the easy approach to marriage without a deep appreciation of the responsibilities are among the major causes for divorce among young people,†Al Maabi told Al Watan. “Marriages are bound to fail when there are no robust foundations or trust.â€

Lol, they could have settled this easily but no, they chose the easy way out. Marriage is definitely hard work and it entails lots of efforts. That's why some people choose divorce, because it's easier for them as compared to fixing their differences. For some cases like abuse or affairs, I can understand why these couples would choose divorce. But for something as little like this? Why would you choose divorce so easily?
Unfortunately, this has been happening quite often. And most especially with younger couples who got married too young. But it can also happen to couples who have been together for a long time. There are times that divorce is the right choice. But there are also times that saving the marriage is well worth it.

Many marriages in Saudi Arabia are arranged. Women have very limited rights there, but that depends on the kind of men she's surrunded with, and most importanly how progressive her father is.
Perhaps she didn't really like the idea of being married to this person, and considering that most of the youths in S.Arabia abstain from premarital sex, then if these two were really in love, they wouldn't skip the opportunity to finaly express themselves. Maybe texting was her indirect way of saying "no way", and the groom took the hint and left.
Compared to some stories I heard, he really took the high road with that one.

Well I would be also pissed off if my wife spends the wedding night texting.
“The groom tried to get closer with her and more intimate, but he was shocked when she ignored him, not responding to his words or action,â€. “When he asked her if her friends were more important than he was, the bride answered that they were.â€
Seems to be an arranged marriage perhaps. Now she should go and bang her friends instead.
