Aruna Shanbaug suffered severe brain damage and has been paralysed
since a brutal rape in 1973.... :shocked:
But the court said the medical evidence suggested that she should live...

Previously all forms of euthanasia were illegal in India.
Following the judgement, India's law minister called for a "serious debate"
on the issue of Euthanasia.....

The case for Aruna Shanbaug was filed by a journalist who had written
a book about her.
In her petition, Pinki Virani said that Ms Shanbaug had been in
a "persistent vegetative state" ......for 37 years and was
"virtually a dead person".

and if they were to 'pull the plug' is that considered Euthanasia??

The court said "passive euthanasia", or the withdrawal of food
from a patient, may be considered in certain circumstances.
The decision to open the door to assisted suicide is likely to be controversial.
