Baobab is a natural food source. It has been given the nickname 'King of Superfruits'. This is because when compared to other superfruits found on the market today - such as goji or acai berries - Baobab truely outshines them on a like by like comparison. As a natural product, Baobab is a safe and healthy alternative to taking vitamin pills or other artificial sources.

The African baobab's fruit (6 to 8 inches or 15 to 20 centimeters long) has twice as much calcium as milk, is high in anti-oxidants, potassium, and has 6 times the vitamin C of an orange. The leaves can be eaten as relish, while the fruit dissolved in water or juice to make a drink. The seeds also produce edible oil which is also used in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

The baobab fruit pod is a hard casing about 1/4 inch thick and extremely hard. It is sliced open with a mechanical cutter or broken by smashing against a hard surface.

The ivory/peach colored flesh is inside the pod and is completely dry on a mature fruit. The flesh is surrounded by seeds and held together with fibers. The flesh, seeds, fibers and leaves are nutritious. They all have a use.

Baobab is a special fruit, there is no doubt about this. In fact most parts of the baobab tree have some use. For example, the bark is used to make rope. On a fully grown tree, the trunk can hold thousands of gallons of water and during harsh dry seasons the water is extracted from the trunk using a hollow pole or rod that is inserted into the trunk. The leaves make a delicious high energy soup.
