well it probably had to happen to someone with clout for it to make a difference and for ppl to take a stand.
rape happens all the time ....but i think gruesomeness of this case made all the more tough for women and ppl in general to stomach.
I watch the India news channel - NDTV - the women spoke out and stated that they have been lobbying for justice and harsher punishments for rapists and no one has heard them...with this story they have had enough.
Also you cannot imagine that millions or rape cases do not get reported for VARIOUS reasons.

Bai...if you understand the politics of the day..you will be told that it is just a small 'minority' of the peopel who engage in these acts...as though the smallness of the minorities will jsutify the act itself, or buy immunity for the majority.
