House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) attracted attention last week when he said in a floor speech that former President Donald Trump “bears responsibility” for the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
On Thursday, he told reporters that he didn’t actually believe Trump had “provoked” the mob of his supporters. On Sunday he insisted he wasn't changing his tune. Instead he asserted that Trump does bear some responsibility for what happened. But, he added, so does every other person around the country.
