The behind the scenes sitaution involving Compton has been quite well documented, as has his temperament/intensity, which tended to rub some players and management the wrong way. Michael Atherton touched upon this during commnetary in the Cape Town Test.
I agree with Mail. England have enough attacking players in the team to carry the more defensiveย minded players such as Cook and Compton. Those two add some steel and can lay a foundation for the attacking players such as Hales, Root, Stokes, Taylor and Bairstow to build upon.
The only concerns are that Compton either tries to change his game or is forced to. It was noticeable how in the first innings he looked as though he was told to try and score at a quicker rate but looked uncomfortable doing so.
