I'm trying to get a set of Irons and Wooden Persimmons from the 60's or 70's like the ones in the pic below. I already have a set of Ben Hogan irons from the 80's and they are just amazing.
But I've heard the older irons and woods have a little more weight than modern clubs and as a result you can control your swing and shots a lot better. I'll lose some distance but I'm aiming to be more consistent rather than hitting for distance.

I tried a wooden Persimmon for the first time at the range last year.
Wow! The first one I hit off the screws felt like butter. It went dead straight too. Never got that feeling from my modern driver.
I asked the guy at the range how much he wanted for it and he refused to sell it. Facker. ::LOL::
