South Africans aren't too bad at criticising their own players either. You have no idea how much negative press Graeme Smith used to get - even when the team was winning.

Graeme Smith deserved a lil bad press in his time. he was the second man to declare and loose a test match eh. I mean how smart could that have been ::confused::
it wasn't even smart the first time it was done ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL::

Everyone makes mistakes, so I would never suggest that Graeme Smith was perfect.
A little bad press is fine. But no matter how well Smith did, some people were never satisfied and felt that we would have been better off if Hansie Cronje was still captain. I could never understand that.
no Smith wasnt perfect..far, far from it... and Cronje was worse. no real comparison between the 2 men. Smith was a real factor in the, Cronje was a crook.
Smiths problem may not have been of his own making, the white media always hiding his warts instead of honestly dissecting his career as it went along. but Smiths' achievements were significant, a strong winning career with no implications like Cronje.
but Smith ought not to have been handled with media gloves. we ought to have known the big ruff and tumble probably racist character he was, not all that brilliant whose winning was due more to the overall top quality of the side he led than any above ordinary capability on his part.
and he was a real, solid test class batsman with the runs and average to match...
altogether a player with a positive overall calculation in the history of the game...
