Restoration of the Kitty Market should resume next week, following the signing of a $25 million contract yesterday between the Ministry of Communities and BML Architects and Engineers Consultancy and Construction Services to have the first phase of works completed.
BML was reportedly selected through a closed tender process, in which it was the only bidder.
A 16-year-old young man from the Kitty area is in Police custody after he was apprehended by a gold miner just after the same gold miner was robbed by the teenager and three other persons.
According to a Police statement, the incident occurred just after midnight in the Kitty area.
The gold miner was standing on the Kitty Public Road, close to the seawalls, when he was corned by four men who robbed him of his two mobile phones and an undisclosed sum of cash.
As the suspects ran from the scene, the businessman was able to subdue and hold onto the 16-year-old, who had an injured leg. The others made good their escape.
The Police was summoned and the teen was handed over.
The juvenile is in custody and is assisting with the investigation
An early morning fire at Pike Street , Kitty has left several families contemplating their next move.
The origin of the fire is still being determined by fire officials as there were several conflicting reports of where it may have started.
