Background
Batters in cricket are continuing to sustain head and facial injuries despite wearing protective helmets.

Objective
To gain an understanding of the types and mechanisms of head injuries sustained by batters wearing a helmet.

Results

53% of the injuries occurred following ball impact to either the helmet faceguard and peak, or the faceguard alone.

Ten injuries (29%) resulted from the ball penetrating the gap between the helmet peak and faceguard.

29% of the injuries involved the ball contacting the face following penetration of the gap between
the helmet peak and faceguard.

I hate batting with a helmet.  Keep your eye on the ball and never turn your head.

but I suspect the manufactures of helmets are profiteering at the expense of the players.  those helmets are quite insufficient design ridiculous.

take a look at the baseball batting helmets.  they try to protect the whole side of the head facing the pitcher.  so baseball helmets are constructed for both left and right handed hitters.  nothing of the kind is done with cricket helmets

cricket helmets appear too soft to protect against the ball at 90 mph..and too short to protect the hole side of the head facing the bowler.  and the visor keeps nothing out so the ball can still smash a face with the helmet

looks to me like a hole game of fraud here.  the makes of helmets should be sued

there must be a proper protective design to protect all that needs to be protected when facing a fast bowler. 

if not then discard the helmet altogether and focus  pace bowling strictly around the wickets...no bouncers and short pitched bowling

It is not the right time to talk about profiteering, is it really?

This accident is a very remote incident and Masuri 2014 version has improved.

You cannot have a helmet coming all the way down the neck as you restrict movement immensely!

How many players have died in the history of cricket and sports?

Like most things, they happen for a reason and one anticipates something good would come out of this.

Remember in the period where the world saw the fastest bowlers, in tandem too, there were no helmets and no one died!

Let us grieve in context!

I do not think helmet designers set out to do anything at the expense of players.
