Cricket Helmets

one death is too many man.

also I suggested a look at baseball helmetry to see if there is example to follow there.  there is also the NFL which league makes  dynamite helmets

and to protect from an injury like this one here does not require a helmet down to the neck

and when will you beat the iron..when its cold or hot ::confused::

now is the time for consideration of this event in full.

I say it again. I have looked at the cricket helmets and they are a waste of time.  take a look at ketchims stats and see for your self  lesser injury are not protected where the helmet is supposed to protect but does not.

look here..the part of the head that is fully covered by the cricket helmet will never be hit by a cricket ball..unless the batsman sits on the wicket and middles the ball with his head.... not his bat ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL::

both sides and the forehead are critical for protection.  the face as well as behind... in case a batsman turns his head in fear.  so the designers/builders must come up with effective protection for these parts of the head or a helmet is a waste of time.  look at Hughes..look at where he got hit. there is protection nowhere nearby from the helmet.

he is a right hander..left side to the bowler.  the left side of the helmet must be designed to protect the the left side of the head.  so the helmet must be left sided or right sided like for a left hander, like baseball helmets.

[size=12pt]LOOK  MAIL!!  THE MORE I TALK AND THINK ABOUT IT THE MORE PISSED I GET BECAUSE THE CLEARER IT BECOMES IN MY MIND THAT THE CURRENT  CRICKET HELMET IS A WASTE OF TIME.  THE CURRENT CRICKET HELMET IS LIKE A DESIGNER THINGY, MORE FOR GOOD LOOKS THAN USEFUL IN PROTECTING THE BATSMAN. ITS A DAM WASTE OF TIME.  I WILL NOT TAKE BACK ANYTHING I HAVE SAID, NOR MITIGATE MY ANGER

BECAUSE OF THE BASEBALL HELMET THAT KIND OF THING CANT HAPPEN IN THAT GAME. I HOPE YOU DON'T HAVE AN INVESTMENT IN THE HELMET COMPANY MAIL. ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL:: IT HAS NOT DONE A GOOD JOB/IS NOT DOING A GOOD JOB

Huges would have been alive if he was using the latest model. What a tragedy! I still can't believe that he is no more.

Not so , Strokemaker  : look at the diagram on the first post.

There is no protection for the back Neck artery : on a mistimed Hook or Pull of a Bouncer !

that "approximate area of Impact" : is NOT covered !

Calypso , its like the Penalty is a burst vessel and death:

For a mistime hook of a Bouncer !

Gotta agree with Mapoui : BAN the Bouncer !

Call NO : to any short Pitch like a guided missile at a batsman face !

In the light of what has happened I agree to a certain point .....

BUT hey didn't WI fans generally disagree with the ICC ruling years ago .... saying that that ruling contributed to the demise of WI cricket ??

I know and I marvel at Nari Contactor ability to stay alive 50 years ago :

without a Helmet !

In retrospect , it is not the helmet : it is the Bouncer !

Yes, and West Indies did use it as a weapon !

I will be the first to admit I egged Bowlers on with shouts of :

" RibCage"  "Body Language"  et cetera  :-[

..... and going back even further .... there was Bodyline !!!  :-[

I don't know Ketch ... I am sitting on the fence on this one.  It's a game of skill of bat on ball.  Perfect or near perfect judgement of a delivery.

I don't know if taking away the intimidating tactics of a bowler vs a batsman lashing you outta de ground is the way to go .... am fence sitting on this one for the time being ... :-\

I grew up with the old adage  : "Bat is King of the Ball"

But even imperfect timing should have some helmet protection !

Laawwwddd as men , no one goes to Bat without a " seeds guard "  ::LOL::
