The whole  concept of Yakub was invented by the founder of the Nation of Islam.
 

Elijah Muhammed was a con-man and The Nation of Islam is in no way progressive; it is in fact far-right. It has little connection to mainstream Islam, its theological teachings involve various conspiracy theories, un-scientific views of race and human history and its supposed revelatory "magical" teachings are all borrowed from Gnostic/conspiracy lore.

Over the years, the NOI has reformed itself and become more "mainstream" and "mellow", but it has a history of sucking up to white supremacists and other ultrarightists and usually steers away from real fights against racism. This, of course, is why Malcom X broke away from it. Remember, Elijah Muhammed called for racial seperation and non-engagement. Guys like Malcolm X and Mohammed Ali thought he was an idiot. They both joined for the NOI's anti-racist political aspects but eventually refined their thoughts and left because of all the religious as well as conservative nonsense the group peddles.

The NOI's concept of Black nationalism is also pretty stupid, based largely on Black business and the interests of Black businessmen. It also holds typical far-right positions on a lot of political issues, from opposing women's equality to scapegoating Koreans and Jews.

But the fact that the CIA allowed the NOI (and Elijah Muhammed) to continue, tells you all you need to know about it.
