The Donald to Obama: Resign now and free golf for life awaits!
President Barack Obama got a taste of what most weekend duffers had to come to grips with early in their golfing careers — from Augusta to Cypress, there are some courses you just can’t play. And you never will. You don’t know the right people. You don’t have the money. Enjoy the local muni with the rest of the commoners.
Still, the fact that the leader of the free world got that snub treatment over Labor Day weekend is more than a little unusual. According to NBC New York, Obama was turned away at several of the top golf courses in Westchester, including Winged Foot, Willow Ridge and Trump National Golf Club.
Political analyst Dan Gerstein told NBC that a few years ago — amid the “Yes we can!†lovefest — this never would’ve happened. “I think he has lost that star quality he had in his first two years in office and in that 2008 campaign,†he said.
The club managers reportedly didn’t want to draw the ire of their mucky-muck members by closing down the course on a busy weekend just so that the president could get yet another round under his belt.
There’s also a pretty good chance that a large percentage of the clubs’ members lean way over to the right and have more problems with the current administration than just whether Obama bumps them down the tee sheet.
One of those who never shies away from conflict with Obama is Donald Trump. And the finely coiffed New Yorker made his feelings known with this tweet:
If Obama resigns from office NOW, thereby doing a great service to the country—I will give him free lifetime golf at any one of my courses!
