“I WISH to condemn the Azim Bassarath, leading Executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), in the strongest possible terms for its neglect and failure to implement the recommendations of an Independent Committee which was set up for the sole purpose of considering the Constitutional Arrangements of the cricket board. The public would

ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) – Legendary former Test captain, Sir Vivian Richards, has thrown his weight behind CARICOM’s efforts at governance reform in West Indies cricket. The Antiguan, who never lost a Test series as skipper, said he believed the regional nation grouping’s intentions were genuine and were aimed at correcting some of the problems wh
Shai Hope springs eternal
By Albert Baldeo Don’t get me wrong. I am happy and proud that West Indian Shai Hope has been honored as one of Wisden’s five Cricketers-of-the-Year, and I hope he grows from strength to strength (pardon the pun). Like he said, it as “humbling and was a bit of a shock when I got the news and obviously a huge privilege being named among the five.” M

UWI Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Renowned regional academic Professor Sir Hilary Beckles said it was critical that cricket’s world governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), should heed the call of the Caribbean community, in helping to solve the governance crisis in West Indies cricket. The

Ban humbled me, says in-form Russell
CHENNAI, India (CMC) — West Indies Twenty20 star Andre Russell says his time away from the sport serving a one-year anti-doping whereabouts ban had taught him humility, and stressed he was now fit and confident to continue his successful return. The Jamaican failed to file his whereabouts on three separate occasions within a 12-month period, a viol
Shai Hope reflects on ‘humbling’ Wisden award
Shai Hope was humbled to be among Wisden’s five Cricketers of the Year but insists the twin hundreds that earned him a place on the list were not as important as helping the West Indies to victory. The 24-year-old rose to prominence last August by becoming the first batsman to register a century in either innings of a first-class match at Headingle
Pollard unclear over Windies ODI return
Kieron Pollard says he's available to play one-day internationals for the West Indies, but the 30-year-old allrounder remains unsure what plans the board might have for him in the 50-over format. Players have been embroiled for several years in contractual disputes with Cricket West Indies (CWI), with the team even abandoning a 2014 tour of India m
Holding urges Rabada to let the ball do the talking
West Indies fast bowling great Michael Holding believes Kagiso Rabada can be a force for the Proteas for very long time if he just let’s the ball do the talking. Holding, who took 249 wickets in 60 Tests for the great Windies side of the 1970s and 80s, has often been spotted chatting to the Proteas paceman during the summer in South Africa, where H

In fact, chairman of CARICOM’s cricket subcommittee, Prim

Guyana Diaspora Forum

We have a large database of Guyanese worldwide.  Most of our readers are in the USA, Canada, and the UK.  Our Blog and Newsletter  would not only carry  articles and videos on Guyana, but also other articles on a wide range of subjects that may be of interest to our readers in over 200 countries, many of them non-Guyanese  We hope that you like our selections.

It is estimated that over one million Guyanese, when counting their dependents, live outside of Guyana.  This exceeds the population of Guyana, which is now about 750,000.  Many left early in the 50’s and 60’s while others went with the next wave in the 70’s and 80’s.  The latest wave left over the last 20 years. This outflow of Guyanese, therefore, covers some three generations. This outflow still continues today, where over 80 % of U.G. graduates now leave after graduating.  We hope this changes, and soon.

Guyanese, like most others, try to keep their culture and pass it on to their children and grandchildren.  The problem has been that many Guyanese have not looked back, or if they did it was only fleetingly.  This means that the younger generations and those who left at an early age know very little about Guyana since many have not visited the country.  Also, if they do get information about Guyana, it is usually negative and thus the cycle of non-interest is cultivated.

This Guyana Diaspora Online Forum , along with its monthly newsletter, aims at bringing Guyanese together to support positive news, increase travel and tourism in Guyana and, in general, foster the birth of a new Guyana, which has already begun notwithstanding the negative news that grabs the headlines.  As the editor and manager of the publication, I am committed to delivering Blog entries and Newsletters that are politically balanced, and focused on the positive ideas we wish to share and foster among Guyanese.
