The Amaila Falls Hydro Power project
We are indeed pleased that the Government has commenced efforts to resume the Amaila Falls Hydro Power project as part of its energy mix to ensure that the nation is provided with clean, reliable and affordable electricity. From the onset, it should be stated that Guyana would have been in a better position regarding an affordable, reliable supply
Oil and Democracy in Guyana
Kaieteur News – Michael L. Ross prefaces Chapter 3 of his book, ‘The Oil Curse – How Petroleum Wealth Shapes the Development of Nations’ by quoting former United States Vice-President and former oil company executive, Dick Cheney: “The problem is that the good Lord didn’t see it fit to put oil and gas reserves where there are democratic governments
What worthy thing can the coalition say they accomplished five years?
It came as no surprise to see the letter to the president-elect of the United States. Here again, is another window into why the previous regime lost. What is the end-game for the entire population of Guyana? Zero. The only time the US, as far as I can remember, has gotten involved with the opposing side, in a foreign country, is when there have be

There are great prospects for sugar industry
Dear Editor, The Government of Guyana has taken a bold step to resuscitate the sugar industry after the almost death blows delivered to it by the PNC-led APNU+AFC government. This is most commendable and deserves the support of the whole nation. The sugar industry can still play a leading role in the socio-economic development of our country in man
The PNC firmly, shamelessly reaffirmed and boasted of its authoritarian credentials
Guyana and the world know, but the PNC brazenly, this week, went to extraordinary lengths to remind everyone in Guyana and around the world that it is a political party unabashedly committed to authoritarianism and dictatorship. The PNC Chairperson declared to its members that if they are genuinely PNC, they must never question their leaders; they
A moral gatekeeper of Guyanese politics
DEAR EDITOR, There is still hope in Guyana for the good and betterment of some Guyanese to redeem themselves from any sense of finality that paints a picture of doom and gloom and, look forward to the day when a sense of tranquility will finally prevail with good triumphing over evil. In the ambience of Navratri, with Guyanese and the rest of the w
The constitution has always been pellucid that dual citizens are proscribed from sitting in the House.
It boggles the mind that after all the upheaval created by the dual citizenship of former MP Charrandass Persaud which forced the resignation from Parliament of the current Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon, the current Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge that we a
It appears that GuySuCo is on the mend
Dear editor, THE re-opening of three of the four sugar factories shuttered by the Granger-led so-called coalition government is a clear indication that President Irfaan Ali’s PPP/C administration has fulfilled one of its key campaign promises to the people. It was a decision the PPP/C Government made because it believes in the hard work and sacrifi

Guyana Diaspora Forum

We have a large database of Guyanese worldwide.  Most of our readers are in the USA, Canada, and the UK.  Our Blog and Newsletter  would not only carry  articles and videos on Guyana, but also other articles on a wide range of subjects that may be of interest to our readers in over 200 countries, many of them non-Guyanese  We hope that you like our selections.

It is estimated that over one million Guyanese, when counting their dependents, live outside of Guyana.  This exceeds the population of Guyana, which is now about 750,000.  Many left early in the 50’s and 60’s while others went with the next wave in the 70’s and 80’s.  The latest wave left over the last 20 years. This outflow of Guyanese, therefore, covers some three generations. This outflow still continues today, where over 80 % of U.G. graduates now leave after graduating.  We hope this changes, and soon.

Guyanese, like most others, try to keep their culture and pass it on to their children and grandchildren.  The problem has been that many Guyanese have not looked back, or if they did it was only fleetingly.  This means that the younger generations and those who left at an early age know very little about Guyana since many have not visited the country.  Also, if they do get information about Guyana, it is usually negative and thus the cycle of non-interest is cultivated.

This Guyana Diaspora Online Forum , along with its monthly newsletter, aims at bringing Guyanese together to support positive news, increase travel and tourism in Guyana and, in general, foster the birth of a new Guyana, which has already begun notwithstanding the negative news that grabs the headlines.  As the editor and manager of the publication, I am committed to delivering Blog entries and Newsletters that are politically balanced, and focused on the positive ideas we wish to share and foster among Guyanese.
