This first test is going to be a draw because England is still at the crease and are 50 runs behind with just one day left to play. That pitch seems like a batting paradise because it will see over 1000 runs scored in just the first innings of both teams.

Well Moeen Ali did open the batting and he batted slowly just scoring 35 runs for about 100 balls so I don't know if he will be a suitable opener in the long run. He looks like someone who should be batting to save the team in the lower order.

Alastair Cook will one day tell the story of this innings to his grandkids and they will be grandparents themselves by the end of it.

This is likely just a temporary experiment for the Test series with Pakistan as England wanted to fit two spinners and a fourth seamer into the attack. The only way they could do that was to have Mo open the batting. The talk on the broadcast was that Hales will likely open the batting against South Africa as England will only play one spinner and will need the extra batsman.
While it wasn't a free flowing innings, he didn't look uncomfortable, save for one short ball from Wahab and a 100 run partnership for the first wicket is nothing to be sniffed at, even on this turgid wicket.

That was Cook at his defiant, stubborn best. He set anchor and was determined to bat through the innings. The incredible thing about his performance today was that he only hit two boundaries. It was a shame that he fell short of a triple century, even worse that he was finally out to a no.ball and the umps never reviewed it.
As a side note, this is one of the worst wickets I have ever seen. Just a shocker of a pitch that offered absolutely nothing for any of the bowlers. Worse yet, this is typical for.this ground as this was the sixth double century in just 8 matches.

Good batting by both team and hence a drawn match! If only the West Indies could actually get some decent batters to make these kinds of scores in test cricket.

Wait, what now? Did you watch Pakistan's second innings? They almost threw the match away and somehow gave England a chance to actually win.
Rashid goes from outhouse to penthouse in the second innings. England will be slightly disappointed that they were unable to pull off the most unlikeliest of wins, but they will take a lot of positives out of this match.

It was the right strategy and England did just about all they could to win, unfortunately, the light just didn't hold out long enough. It's too bad there weren't any pink cricket balls on hand... Credit to Misbah for dragging his heels and wasting time, though I think this is something that the ICC need to look into. Almost no Test matches finish on time these days due to the amount of time wasting that goes on in between overs.
Had Pakistan have lost, it would have been the fifth highest first innings total by a team to go on to lose a Test match.

Azhar Ali, the Pakistan batsman, will return home following the death of his mother-in-law and is unlikely to play in the second Test against England starting in Dubai on Thursday.
Azhar, 30, did not play in the first Test, which ended in a draw in Abu Dhabi due to a foot infection.
Intikhab Alam, the Pakistan team manager, said Ali would return home and it was not clear if he would be able to rejoin the squad before the Test.
"Its sad that Ali has to return home following the death of his mother-in-law and his return before the second Test will depend on his visa for the United Arab Emirates," said Alam.
