Ketch .. reminds me of a story.  My Mom & Dad and a group of friends went to Grenada on holiday when I was little.  They apparently met some locals and their first question after finding out they were from Guyana was... "You know Rohan Kanhai?'
One fellow in the group decided to play a joke and pointed to my Mom and said 'Dat's Rohan's sister'.  Mom went along with it and they were feted like you wouldn't believe.
Mom returned with her accordion slung over her shoulder and the accordion case full of avocados and nutmeg !!!  (impostor)  : :

It just amazes me how lowly West Indians regard Kanhai. I wrote an article on him some time ago and if you asked an Englishman of Kanhai's age and even our age group, Kanhai and Sobers are mentioned in that order and interchangeable.
Incidentally, I was writing/ updating a History of a new club and was taken back that likes of Kenny Barrington had played there as  a youngster. Another stalwart of a certain age, who was also doing a more detailed history, said he had resigned from the Notts committee when Sobers became their overseas player.
Apparently his appointment, in his view, would not be good for Club and Country.
How things have changed.

My experinces are different from yours .
I  was once in a taxi and when the Jamaican found out that I was Guyanese , he regaled me with stories about Kanhai and Kali , as a matter of fact after I arrived  home we sat in the car for about 15 minutes and he continued
He told me the story of Kali who the jamaicans werent familiar with but on his first appearance in Jamaica in the shell shield he made a century beating Uton Dowe and Maurice Foster all over the place .
In the second inning he recieved a standing ovation from the Sabina park crowd

Some folks will persist in the belief that Kanhai was not loved by all West Indians.
Ah well is so it go.

Kwams that was then and I agree with you that he was loved but where is he when recognising the greatest West Indies team?
