Chanders wasn't kicked out due to poor form. He had 3 to 5 more years in him.

He was kicked out because he refused to bat higher up the order, was old and taking up the places of younger players, because he was closing in on Lara's record, and because he bats too slowly to be useful unless batting higher up the order.

I think Chanders should have been batting at 3 or 4 the moment Gayle took the captaincy, or even opening. I don't know how he managed to get away with batting so low for so long. Your best batsman should be up the order.
