Bridgetown, Barbados, December 17 - ( www.bcacricket.org ) - Tevyn Walcott rose to the challenge of batsmen producing big scores with a wonderful hundred on the second day of the second Barbados Pride three-day trial match at Weymouth today.

Wicket-keeper/batsman Walcott, the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) captain, who also plays for Barbados Pride, slammed 175 and with support from Wanderers all-rounder Roshon Primus, who made 56, featured in a century stand for the sixth wicket as Shamarh Brooks’ X1 amassed 364 all out off 88.4 overs in reply to a first innings total of 159 in 49.4 overs by Kraigg Brathwaite’s side.

In sharp contrast to the first day when 14 wickets tumbled for 273 runs, only six wickets fell today, making the purpose of the match much more meaningful.

Starting the day on 114 for four off 22.4 overs with Kyle Mayers on 41 and Walcott 37, left-hander Mayers was soon dismissed for 45, caught at the wicket by Tauron Gibson off off-spinner Michael Agard Jr.

It let in Primus and by lunch, cut short by rain, the score had moved to 175 for five with Walcott on 78 and Primus 14.

The pair added 130 in just over two hours before Primus was bowled by off-spinner Chaim Holder, having faced 102 balls and struck four fours and two sixes.

Walcott, who reached his century in 227 minutes off 141 balls with 14 fours and one six, was last out. He brought up his 150 in 327 minutes off 206 deliveries, counting 19 fours and four sixes. His innings spanned for 377 minutes, 230 balls and included 22 fours and four sixes.

In this year’s Elite division three-day Championship, the 25-year-old Walcott had his best season with the bat, scoring 481 runs (ave: 43.73) including two centuries in seven matches before representing Barbados Pride in the regional Super50 Cup.

He revealed an appetite for big scores with a knock of 166 - the highest by a batsman for the season - against Carlton in at Desmond Haynes Oval in the first series.

Left-arm pacer Dominic Drakes was the leading wicket-taker for Brathwaite’s X1 with three for 52 of 12 overs, while his Carlton teammate, fast bowler Keon Harding, picked up two for 65 off 16 overs.

Gibson, a gifted 19-year-old, who plays for new Elite division champions Spartan, had the satisfaction of taking five catches, despite one blemish when he dropped Walcott on 98 off pacer Akeem Jordan.

Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Thomas Burton bowled well enough in his first season in Guyana to gain selection
for the 1900 England tour
and against touring sides from England in 1901-02 and 1904-05
he was effective and was chosen to tour England again in 1906

Raymond Reifer has made his name for his all-round abilities by playing
a major role in Guyana's run to the 2016-17 four-day title
which earned him a maiden call up to the West Indies Test side
ahead of their 2017 tour of England

I see him married his own country bride yet still going back to Guyana franchise !

He was sent home after refusing to carry out menial duties for white members of the side.
That ended his cricketing career and also made him virtually unemployable
and he was forced to emigrate again : this time to Panama.
He returned to Barbados shortly before his death
so that he could "die where I was born". :S
