EDITED! SHUD MAKE MORE SENSE NOW!
even with Bravo out there were options at #3 to avoid putting the young, volatile kid in there. putting him there was altogether too much for the kid as has been clear..yet they continued with it, finally striking luck last night:(
given this behavior I cant think of a more disgusting creature than the cWI. there are simple and obvious adjustments that can be made to try make things more normal. if it was a risk tossing Hetmeyer at 3 how much more of a risk would it have been to move up Roston Chase for example if they wanted to keep Shai hope anchored at 4????
and by the way.. the risk they took with Hetmeyer is the same as with Kyle Hope...chucking him at #3 with no experience at all in test cricket, the most difficult position in a batting order. at least Chase had scored, was solid in the side relative to his place in it.
and of course there is Blackwood..a player whose trajectory I cant understand at all at all. Blackwood should by now be the one to be promoted to #3 if Bravo is not available. Blackwood should have matured successfully if he had been guided properly, developed properly and promoted to #3. were this the case Hetmeyer would have been introduced at #6 and all would be well
in another coupe of years Hetmeyer would have progressed nicely and overtaken Blackwood who would then drop down again still very effective
but they stuck Blackwood in at #6 and forgot about him, left him alone. and also, despite an attacking attitude Blackwood was never ever pointed towards the shorter forms, as he appears to be a natural for ODI and T20
I cant understand west indies cricket. why would things be left to develop like that?
as coach and head of cricket at the cWI I would never leave Blackwood alone. in recognition of his very, very good talent I would seek to make sure he developed into the best he could possibly be in all forms of the game.
Blackwood should not by now be dropped out of the west indies team, but much, much, more developed than he is,...far, far ahead and in solidly. the impression in these quarters is that cWI simply ignored Blackwood, never took any time with him..and left to his devices he has simply withered
the way I would treat all and every player is to make sure that if they failed it would not in the absence of cWI skill and capability to understand west indians, the current west indian reality, how it came to be that way and how best we the cWI can work to make sure the talent in the cricket is developed fully, becomes the best it could possibly be developed into:)
and this would not only be an approach up at the representative level, but all the way down the ranks of west indies cricket, and upwards from there. the cWI does not so approach its responsibility. they are a disgusting entity without which west indies cricket is likely to do much better
which of course is why I call the bureau cWI..small c for cricket..because they are small-minded, incompetent and ineffective on the cricket, focused as they are big time on exploitative WI bureaucracy
