Openers John Campbell and Garth Garvey fell short of half-century landmarks on another rain-hit day in the third round Cricket West Indies-Digicel Four-day Tournament day-and-night clash between Jamaica Scorpions and Barbados Pride at Sabina Park yesterday.
Jamaica, who won the toss and elected to bat, are currently 111 for two after 32.3 overs after rain allowed only 18.3 overs to be bowled on the second day. Play resumed on the day at 1:30 p.m. after rain allowed only 14 overs to be bowled on day one.
Campbell, who was 42 overnight and was eyeing his 11th first-class 50, added just two runs before he was adjudged leg before wicket off the bowling of fast bowling all-rounder Kevin Stoute in the sixth over of the second day with the score on 85.
His dismissal came after he had stroked eight fours off 68 deliveries.
The hard-hitting Garvey, in the meantime, playing in his third match, and who resumed on 31 overnight, fell 11 runs short of his maiden 50, when he was caught behind 4.3 overs later with the score on 96, also off the bowling of Stoute. He faced 62 balls and hit six fours.
CHIEF WICKET TAKER
The 31-year-old Stoute, a former West Indies 'A' representative and veteran of 69 first-class matches, has so far claimed two for 72 to be the chief wicket taker.
West Indies off-spinner Ashley Nurse has miserly figures of none for 13 off 11 overs. Play is again scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. today, weather permitting.
The not out batsmen are Guyanese-born Assad Fudadin, who is on 15 from 48 deliveries, and Brandon King, six. The latter has faced 17 balls.
The Robert Samuels-conditioned Scorpions are seeking their first win of the campaign after drawing and losing in their first two encounters. Barbados has an equal record from their opening two fixtures.
