Martin Guptill.
Poorest averages for top-order batsmen (1-7) in Tests since 2013 (Min 30 inns)
I recently questioned why New Zealand continue to select Martin Guptill in Test match cricket. A closer look at the numbers raises further eyebrows. Since 2013, Martin Guptill has been the worst batsman in Test cricket (minimum 30 innings).
Guptill, Thirimanne and Samuels are like a bad case of hiccups, try as you might, you just can't get rid of 'em.

Does that really work? I'm definitely going to check that next time I get a case of the hiccups.

Guptill is like Jekyl and Hide when it comes to Tests and T20s. He has been the worst Test player over the last 3 years, but a world beater when it comes to T20 cricket. He has the 15th best average in T20 cricket, and is 23rd on the all-time runs scoring list.
His career numbers (both Test and T20) are very similar to JP Duminy's. Excellent T20 numbers but struggled mightily in Test cricket.

Even with his ongoing struggles in Test cricket, New Zealand have stuck with him for the upcoming tour of India with Jeet Patel (he of the career First-Class average of 43.85) being left at home.

maybe the selectors dont think Jeet FC # would convert to International ?
Guyana squad wins every regional Tournament and are defending champs.
Yet there are only 2 out of 30
players named for Pakistan UAE tour
11 Bajans, 9 Trinis : Guyana whip their asses all the time .
Go Figure !

An average Test batsman would certainly be an upgrade on Guptill
One of my favourite comments I read regarding Guptill's ongoing selection (which has bemused, confused and angered many NZ fans) is equating it to James Vince's career lasting not 7 Tests, but 7 years. Very easy on the eyes, just clearly out of his depth.

I'm guessing that Marlon will be selected for the upcoming series against Pakistan. Rumours about his retirement seem to be just that.
