The not-so-great players are more likely to become better coaches. Being less instinctive means they understand their craft better, are better able to recognize the barriers that hinder performance, and are more adept at deciphering problems and communicating instructions to fix those problems.
How often have we seen great players bristle at being asked about coaching record or certification? Frequently, they will tetchily cite their outstanding playing record in response, as if playing expertise translates directly into coaching ability.
Well it doesn’t. The elite player often does not appreciate that coaching is a vocation you have to dedicate time and effort into perfecting. In order to teach, you first have to become a student.

No. Was writing about replacement of Ambrose. Perhaps you could ask why Williams is still there and let us know why.

Absolutely spot on.
"The elite player often does not appreciate that coaching is a vocation you have to dedicate time and effort into perfecting. In order to teach, you first have to become a student."
The above is key in understanding the salient issues. Very well said and mirrors my views.

Ha ha.
And yes I wonder why he is still there although not an elite player, in my view.
When Richard P expressed the need for Coaching badges there was the usual outcry.

He might well be certified but, as you are aware, not all those certified are good and that applies to all certifications.

One thing to remember is that if the player does not have the ability coaching will be of no use to him. The bowlers that are being available seems to have no more than ordinary ability and this has been happening for quite a while under many different coaches. The batting department has not been at a much better level that in the bowling department in this period of West Indies cricketing mediocrity. it's also important to West Indies cricket is only competitive in the T20 format at present.

Yes, Williams is an incompetent, evil little fella.
Unfortunately he is also a WICB yes man, so he is protected.
And Ambrose wasn't really the bowling coach. He was more of a kind of part time bowling consultant/mascot.
