The new IPL season is underway. Mumbai Indians score just 121/8 from their 20 overs. Buttler makes a duck in his IPL debut, Simmons and Pollard don't fare much better, and their innings was saved from total disaster thanks to an unlikely 45 from Harbhajan Singh.
Very hard to see them defending such a paltry total on this batting paradise. This was the same ground England chased down 229 against South Africa.

These Mumbai Indian shirts might be the flashiest I have ever seen. So much gold! Also an incredible amount of sponsors littered over almost every inch.

Supergiants in cruise control, though have been aided by a few edges finding the boundaries and not in fielders hands. Just 46 needed with 11 overs remaining.

Rahane finishes that in emphatic style. KP once again looking top notch. A comfortable stroll in the park for the Supergiants.
I guess the World Cup spoiled us with two games per day. One match a day is like having dinner without dessert. I want ice cream.

MUMBAI, India, CMC – West Indies batsmen Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard both failed as reigning champions Mumbai Indians slumped to a heavy nine-wicket defeat to new franchise Rising Pune Supergiants, in the opening game of the new Indian Premier League season here Saturday.
Opting to bat first, Mumbai showed plenty rust in stumbling to 121 for eight off their 20 overs at the Wankhede Stadium but Supergiants experienced no such glitches, racing to their target in the 15th over.
Opener Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with an unbeaten 66 off 42 deliveries and put on 78 for the first wicket with South African Faf du Plessis who made 34 from 33 balls.
Englishman Kevin Pietersen chipped in with an unbeaten 21 off 14 balls.
Earlier, Simmons managed just eight at the top of the order while Pollard scored just one at number six, as Mumbai’s batting collapsed.
Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh top-scored with an unbeaten 45 off 30 balls batting at number eight while middle order batsman Ambati Rayudu chipped in with 22.
Simmons, a member of the West Indies T20 World Cup winning squad last week, looked to be finding his touch when he clobbered pacer RP Singh for a straight six in the third over.
However, he perished in the next over, playing across a full length inswinger from seamer Ishant Sharma at 29 for two.
Pollard was fifth out in the eighth over with the score on 40, lbw to medium pacer Rajat Bhatia, playing back to one that came in.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

For those that didn't get to bask in the glory of the Mumbai Indians shirts:
More gold than Mr. T. I am seriously impressed how they were able to squeeze sponsors logos on almost every inch of their kit.

Two IPL matches, two one-sided routs. Just a few days after WT20, wonder whether there's enough breathing space for both cricketers & fans.

Agreed. Not the best of starts to this year's incarnation of the IPL. Another low scoring non-competitive affair.
No heroics from Brathwaite today. Andre Russell with a nice showing with the ball. Old man Hastings continues to impress me. Surprised he didn't feature against India in Australia's crucial match against India.
This Dehli team looks really short on quality and may struggle badly.
