A nice little stat that I came across today - Ross Taylor's 326 runs scored in the Perth Test were the third most scored in a single Test by a New Zealander. Stephen Fleming still holds the record with a combined total of 343 runs scored against Sri Lanka in 2003 - impressively, Fleming finished both innings not out.

Second on the list is Martin Crowe with 329 runs scored in 1991, also against Sri Lanka. Making Crowe's feat even more impressive is that New Zealand were dismissed for 174 in the first innings.

The thing with records though is that, while it sounds like a cliche, the records are there to be broken and just because Taylor as broken Lara's record, that doesn't mean he's now a better player than Lara or that he ever will be.
