The match still counts towards the Test rankings. If England win, they move ahead of Australia to second in the rankings. If Australia win or draw, they stay second and England will be third.
England are also looking to win four Tests in a home Ashes series for the first time ever while Michael Clarke is looking to become only the fifth player to score a century in both his first and his last Test.
Not to mention, Ashes matches are never meaningless.

230/3
Smith 62.
Steve Smith becomes the 3rd youngest and 4th joint fastest to score 3000 test runs for Australia.
Oh and another stat pertaining to clarke.
he needs 157 in the second innings if he doesn't get out, or 207 if he does to make it to a career average of 50

Given that it has taken Clarke 12 innings this year to score 211 runs total (and a high score of 47), this seems rather unlikely.

No, its MEANINGLESS! :

Who gives a rat's behind about Jurrasic rankings!

Centuries, smencheries. Just padding stats in a glorified net session. Bowlers don't care, fielders don't care. :-\ Fans want to see teams playing for SOMETHING :-*

"steeped in tradition and history..."

so are water closets and chastity belts. ::LOL::
Ashes should be replaced by best of 7 or 9 T20 series. Give the fans what they want!

Clearly it was a good toss for Clarke to lose. The pitch obviously didn't do as much as most expected and looks like they just might pile up runs from here.
