Shivnarine Chanderpaul, born August 16, 1974, is one of the leading run-scorers in Test history and West Indies’ second-highest run-scorer after Brian Lara. A few fun stats I uncovered while doing some research for my post on India's away day blues :
  • Chanderpaul has 12 first innings centuries, tied with Justin Langer and Brian Lara for the most by a left-handed batsman.
  • Chanderpaul averaged 68.75 in the first innings of a Test match. Of all left-handed batsman to have played at least 15 Test matches, only Brian Lara (70.17) had a higher first innings average.
  • Chanderpaul is tied with Chris Gayle and Graeme Smith for most scores (13) of 50+ by a left-handed batsman in the fourth innings of a Test match.
