Test cricket is real cricket. But not this modern Test cricket. I only like 19th century, no pads, no covered pitches, 8 ball over, unlimited days, England vs Australia only test cricket. And all players must arrive at the game via boat, car or horse. None of this newfandangled airplane crap.

These days test cricket is a test of nerves and patience for the fans and a means by which players can end their careers early and missing out on the big bucks available in t20 cricket.

How much of the England/Australia match did you watch today? I am guessing not a ball. If you did, you would have seen the cracking atmosphere.

Although the above video is from the SCG in 2011, the fans in Cardiff were in similar voice. Those fans sure look and sound bored to tears to me. Just because you don't have the attention span needed for Test cricket, doesn't mean you should castigate those that appreciate the skill and mental tenacity that is involved in that format of the game.

BAN ALL TOP HATS. The Brits only allowed top hats when the 18th century Aussies started dominating in sunny conditions. True cricket fans are opposed to all headgear.
Few test cricket fans watch every single ball of every single test. Even in the days of radio, it was all about tunning in and out of the game, turning up to watch key batsmen and bowlers, or doing your best to catch the riveting passages.
And even the dull passages of test cricket have a certain tension to them. There's something weirdly existential about guys like Jimmy Adams, Dravid, Chanders or Steve Waugh just padding and blocking balls for hours. It's like watching some odd Sisyphus myth.
