I am not sure how many times I need to say it but Moeen Ali is NOT a Test opener. He has never batted higher than 6 for England. He bats in the middle order for Worcester and he has not had any time in the middle since his injury. He has struggled with short pitch bowling which is magnified when opening the batting. If anyone replaces Trott - and no one will for this series, Trott will at the very least get an entire series - it will be Lyth an established opener that had a great season of county cricket last year.

Good performance by Cook and Trott to navigate the new ball and survive the day without losing any wickets. England will feel very happy with their performance today although full credit to the resistance offered by Bishoo and Gabriel. 300 is competitive.
Broad looked much better today and the pick of England's bowlers - it's been a while since I've said that. Hopefully the weather holds up tomorrow.

Disappointing that WI did not get a breakthrough with the new ball. How was Gabriel?

Gabriel bowled with some serious pace - I think he was up to 94mph at various points throughout the day - but also a little too short and at times struggled with his action. Bishoo looked the most likely to get a breakthrough and could prove to be very dangerous as the pitch wears.

Any more overs lost to rain would make a result quite difficult, I think. Depending on which forecast you look at there is a chance of more rain. At this stage, I still think a draw is the most likely outcome.

I agree, Mail. Bishoo looked dangerous when he came on last night and given our troubles with spin, he could well play a big role in how England fare today.
