What an excellent return to Test cricket for Compton. He can consider himself a little hard done by not to have received the man of the match award as he changed the course of the Test with his knock on the first day. He was the backbone that held England's first innings together. When England slipped to 49/3, it was looking quite possible that they would be rattled out for 150. Compton was resolute in his defense and England managed to claw their way to a respectable score.
His partnership with Joe Root in the second innings was key to getting England's innings on track once again as Cook and Hales departed cheaply. England have been in desperate need of a number 3 and Compton has grabbed his first opportunity with both hands.
