What an incredible end to the match. It had everything. Brilliant knock from Elliott to take New Zealand home. South Africa can feel hard done by as the rain really hurt them. Still, that took some chasing down from New Zealand.

Oh what a night. We will never forget it. Boult's swing at the top of the innings, du Plessis' absorption of all New Zealand could throw at him, Williamson dropping de Villiers, de Villiers and Miller exploding in the end, the rain, the readjusted target.
McCullum making mockery of some of the best and most fearsome fast bowlers of the world, Morkel bringing South Africa back bowling with heart and menace, New Zealand losing wickets to nerves, Anderson and Elliott bringing them back, de Viliiers missing a run-out, spidercam nearly costing South Africa a wicket, de Kock missing a run-out,
Steyn diving with a dodgy leg to save three runs in the penultimate over, Vettori squeezing out a yorker for four in the final, Elliott ending it with a six, the tears of Morkel, the roar of Elliott, what would this World Cup be without this match?

Hard Luck proteas. It was all hard luck.
had Steyn not put up a loose delivery like that in the penultimate ball,SA could have gone through, but still the better team won.
Love u proteas team,a brilliant team that doesn't seem to click in just ICC events alone.

Somewhat lost due to all the talk of the rain was South Africa's decision to start Vernon Philander over Kyle Abbott. Many thought this was a surprising decision prior to the match and as it turned out, Philander was pretty ineffective. Obviously there were many twists and turns in this game but you do wonder if things would have been different if the in-form Abbott started over Philander.
The 298 runs scored by New Zealand makes this the highest successful run chase in a World Cup knockout game besting the previous high recorded by Australia in their chase of 289 against New Zealand in 1996.
