PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) Azim Bassarath says he has no intention of competing for the position of president of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) when the Annual General Meeting is held next month.
Bassarath’s declaration was prompted by a statement from former West Indies Players Association (WIPA) president Dinanath Ramnarine who tweeted that the TTCB chief will be challenging Cameron for the post.
“That is utter rubbish,†declared Bassarath
“I don’t know where this man gets his information but again he is wrong. I am not contesting the presidency of the WICB.â€
WICB president Dave Cameron has been under attack recently for his role in the WICB’s handling of the recent aborted tour of India which left the Board with a debt of US $41.9 million.
St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonzales has blamed Cameron for the circumstances surrounding the aborted tour and also led calls for him to step down.
Bassarath has insisted that he is not interested in the position of WICB president, and that the T&T Board will convene this week to formalise a position on the WICB’s election.
“The directors will all get their chance to voice an opinion,†he said.
“At the end of it, we will come up with a position and as usual we will stick to whatever that decision isâ€.
Nominations for the post of WICB president close on Saturday and the elections will be held on March 7.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Big Bird is very interested......... and the Yardies voted 10-6 to support him !!!
Former West Indies fast bowler Joel Garner yesterday received the backing of the William ‘billy’ Heaven led Jamaica Cricket Association to try and oust incumbent Jamaican president of the West Indies Cricket Board(WICB) Dave Cameron at next month's election of officers.
This after the JCA executive last night voted 10 to 6 to back garner who will have as his vice presidential candidate Baldath Mahibir the current chairman of the marketing committee of the WICB.
