Yeah, Lara was a bit of an anomaly. You don't get that mixture of patience, grittyness, aggression, style and sheer willpower, very often.
The point is, though. Style and aggression is commonplace in the West Indies. What we need is some "Guyanese style" grit. Look at India in the mid 90s. They were losing everything till Dravid came along to compliment Tendy and Ganguly.

By the way, Kanhai used to mentor Lara, and WI only started losing EVERY DAMN GAME when Kanhai was booted as head coach (in 1994/5, the precise moment WI cricket died).
Lara, Ambrose, Shiv and Walsh kept the pride alive, but they were the last connections to the glory days.
If you want to rebuild a decent cricket unit, you've got to have at least 3 gritty players at the top of the order. Can you imagine if Chanders were still young and opening with Paint? Man, we'd be winning 50 percent more games.
