Antigua Observer article.
St John's, Antigua - Manager of the West Indies Cricket Team, Sir Richie Richardson, has called on the region to support wicket-keeper batsman Denesh Ramdin as captain of the regional squad.
Sir Richie’s call follows the team’s successful showing against Bangladesh in a recent home series in which they won all two Test matches and all three ODIs while the lone T20 match was cancelled due to rain.
The former West Indies captain wants the region to rally around the young leader.
“A lot of people think it is easy to just go and captain an international team or to captain the West Indies, but it is not easy, even if you have had some experience in regional cricket.
“It’s a different ball game because a lot of pressure is on (him) and he’s still learning. He’s got the qualities of a captain, he is a good team (player) and he is not going to be perfect. It’s a learning process for him and we just have to support him,†he said.
Probed for his thoughts on a proposal that would see the regional team appointing separate captains for each format of the game, Sir Richie said it is not a concept he believes will work for West Indies.
“Sometimes, situations call for that and I can respect that, but for me, I think that if you can have all the players playing all formats of the game — then you just slightly rotate one or two players just to keep them fresh — to me, that would be the ideal situation; but it depends on the players you have,†he said.
“I don’t like to go back, but you can’t change the past, but the same players used to play ODI and Test cricket and you make the adjustments because, at the end of the day, it’s cricket,†Sir Richie added.
West Indies will tour India from October 8 to 19, where they will play five ODIs, one T20 and three Test matches.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Does the Manager have a vote on selection matters or is it Lloyd's responsibility?
Apart from T20, I think most of your Test team should be the ODI team plus rotation as Richie suggested.
Anyway, the thread suggests Ramdin is not being supported!
I did not get that impression but if it is the case, it does not surprise me.

Ha, ha, ha.....
But seriously for those based in the Windies (or privy to information), is there a feeling he is unsupported by the public?

A victory over Bangladesh during a home series isn't much to judge Ramdin's captaincy by. He will come under pressure when he goes up against India in India and then we will see what he is made of as a captain. I don't have a problem with Ramdin as captain and lets hope he performs his duties better than how Sammy did.

Rowe,
I disagree to an extent, you need to close matches like those quickly and with his players and his on field strategy that was achieved.
One moment for me was when he read the situation and moved Gabriel to third man and immediately got the man out. It showed real awareness so the initial signs are very good.
Is he brilliant, no, not yet but his first series in charge saw a more keenly contested 2-1 defeat than what had happened in NZ.
How good he is as Captain is quite different from what supports he has from the outset.
So my question was for those resident in the region or for those with their fingers on the pulses of information is he supported or not?
Why would Richie be sending this message out?

Well you know that goes without saying.
All the surveys I have seen suggest close to 60% are very supportive.
But how representative that small sample is, I know not.
