* In 78 AWAY tests Shiv has scored 5488 runs----that's an average of 70 runs per test.
* So it is likely that in his next 6 away tests against India and South Africa Shiv will score 420 runs(70 x 6)
* That 420 runs would bring Shiv's AWAY tally to 5908.
* Looks like Shiv will need to keep playing after the SA series if he aspires to be the 2nd batsman in history to score 6000 runs home and away.

SHIV HAS SOLD HIMSELF SHORT IN TEST CRICKET

* You look at his 69 ball hundred against Australia, at the time, the 3rd fastest test hunded, and you know Shiv is capable of being dominant. Yet over his long and illustrious career Shiv has chosen to be defensive.
* HERE ARE THE NUMBERS.
* In 157 tests Shiv has faced 26,517 balls---only Dravid, Tendulkar, Kallis and Border have faced more balls than Shiv in tests.
* Shiv has scored 11,499 runs off those 26,517 balls---that is a STRIKE RATE (11,499/26517) of
43.33
* CHECK THIS:
* YOU SEE THE MAGIC OF NUMBERS KETCHIM ?
* Most cricket fans are illiterate when it comes to the mathematics of cricket. All they can do is ARGUE based on emotions.

Rev, Shiv needs to stop being so cautious in his batting approach. stop padding the ball! He is Shiv, not Padams!

Googs:
* When Shiv bats positively he looks like a great batsman.
* When he pokes around and is excessively cautious like in the first test against Bangladesh he looks quite ordinary.
BOTTOM LINE:
* No one can argue with Shiv's numbers---in 157 tests he has scored 11,499 runs at an average of 52.26 with 29 hundreds and 64 fifties.
* But had be been more positive in his batting, had he, for example, scored 2 runs more from every 100 balls he has faced in tests, Shiv could have had at least 6 more test hundreds and reached 12K test runs by now.
* In a way, Ramdin did him a favor by declaring the innings with Shiv on 85*----hopefully next time he shows more purpose in his batting, which he is 100% capable off.

Rev,
Thanks for that reminder and I think at his peak, I would not be worrying about this at all.
My main concern is how Shiv contributes to getting results for the team but since the Kiwi series, he looked very vulnerable. I appreciate that too was a home series but only time will tell.
I want to see Shiv taking a more involved role as the senior pro, chatting and advising Ramdin, where appropriate, and mentoring the youngsters even when fielding.
I also agree with you, in your post to Googs, when Shiv bats positively he does look a very good batsman.

Shiv's STRIKE RATE the last time he played against Bangladesh at Beausejour cricket ground back in 20014 was a huge 19.
Shiv scored 7 runs from 36 balls.
Shiv c Khalid masjud b Mohamed rafique 7(36 balls)

* Shiv is due for a 150 NOT OUT in his next test at Beausejour. Hope his STRIKE RATE is better than the 19 SR he had back in 2004.

Mappy:
* Only 2 West Indian batsmen have impressed me over the past 20 years---the great Brian Charles Lara and the outstanding Shiv Chanderpaul.
* THE REV IS A MAN OF HIGH STANDARDS.
* You can comment on the mediocre players who impress you. But as long as Shiv plays I will post useful tidbits on him.
