Missed the point boys.
Mathews has two legends in the team from appointment and I believe Jayawardene, temporarily, relieved him of the Captaincy in the early stages.
Not sure T20 or another format.
AM shows tactical awareness and toughness no doubt but time will tell when he plays against the Saffers, Australia and India in tests.

My perception is he is becoming a Steve Waugh like figure for the Lankans, excess determination, such a sound thinker, so canny in his cricket and not to forget his bowling.SL team is molding to a shape and it would be very difficult to beat them now on.Angelo probably is giving a tribute to the 2 stalwarts of the team who deserve to be part of the team winning on English soil.

Yeah, no one had much doubts about his batting potential. As for his leadership skills, could you just wait for some more time before passing judgements? He's made some real boo boos when it comes to captaincy. So while I agree that the guy has so much potential and whatnot, let's not jump the gun here.

on the west indies team are Gayle with over 7 thousand runs..and Shive Chanderpaul with more that 11 thousand runs.
those are 2 stalwarts in Ramdin's amoury.
I stand by assessment of Angelo Mathews. the Lankans searched and came up with their man. he was young and his elders helped him much in his earlies. but that is what they are there for.
the Lankans stuck with their man and there he is performing on all levels powerfully, apparently on his way to greater things.
