Guys why do you think the ECB has made a mistake over KP?
From all accounts KP has been overly disruptive. About 2 years ago when we were playing his homeland, he was texting derogatory remarks things about his England team mates. The ECB worked with him and welcomed him back to the fold and then other things keep on happening.
That is not an allegation it is fact. KP tried to dictate how his central contract should work so he could play IPL. That was denied as it is for all other contracted cricketers due to the volume of cricket played and the timing of the IPL and the English season/ International commitments and perhaps safeguarding against injury.
KP chooses to drive his own car instead of the car supplied by the sponsors Jaguar. For the majority of the 10 years KP has played for us he has had to be managed and whilst you expect some of that it simply cannot be incessant.
That aside on a cricketing front, KP has been under performing. In his last 3 test series, 12 matches, he averaged 28,39, 29. Approaching 34, those of us who see him very frequently will attest to his apparent lack of interest and disengagement. You even have to look at the way he has approached his cricket in the IPL.
KP is undoubtedly a very gifted batsman but I support the ECB on this occasion, except I would have allowed him to make his way back into the team but he always wanted to play IPL which would have prevented him from playing for Surrey and making an impact for the SL series.
Downton would not have been allowed to get away with saying that KP had no support from the dressing room as players would have spoken out.
Time to rebuild and I wish him the best.
