Vivian certainly assumed the title from Lord Rohan but did so with the greatest disrespect.
A feeble excuse of a man, no class, deportment but admittedly quite a good cricketer. I will forever have no respect for him.
Rohan on the other hand was a gentleman, dapper, respectful and time for people. Wonderful man.
You should have seen his 158* against the Indians in February 1970 At Sabina.
All non black players are marginalised in the Windies.
Like one of my heroes Charlie Davis.

Anytime , Sir Viv is mentioned , you people always bring up Kanhai.
Kanhai was a great player but nowhere as great as Richards.
Viv was fearless and he let his mouth and bat do the talking and if some are upset because he was not afraid to express himself then so be it
Viv played on a champion team all through his career.., Kanhai?

Hate to break the news to you but Viv never asked for or cared whether you respected him or not

Ramesh,
I am being very objective and have given an opinion.
The thread is about the original and Kanhai was just that.
It is arguable whether Richards was better.
Jala you have never seen Kanhai and your cricketing memory seem to have started in the 80s or 90s.
I have seen both men quite a lot at international and County level and Kanhai was me definitely the original.
Viv did not really bat much on uncovered pitches. It is arguable equipment and other conditions were much better for Vivian. More has been written about Vivian as he was more in a media age.
Kanhai did dominate bowlers and games, much like Vivian. However Kanhai was grace and finesse whilst hitting the ball very hard, whereas Vivian was brutal and arrogant, even with a chip on his shoulder, but I would not say he was more or less dominant.
Have you ever heard of an Aussie called Victor Trumper?
Good to see you back Ramesh.

Collins King hit the ball harder that I have ever seen a cricket ball being hit, and that includes Kanhai.

Collis King :
86 v England, final, 1979
An hour and a half into the 1979 World Cup final and West Indies had their backs against the wall.
Stuck in by England, they had slipped to 99 for 4 when Collis King, the last of the frontline batsmen :
came out to join Viv Richards.

Richards played the role of virtual spectator, as King slaughtered the England attack.
What followed was a breathtaking onslaught that turned the match on its head...
"Hey man, take it easy... we have plenty of time."
King was having none of it.
"Smokey," he replied, "I ain't gonna let Geoffrey [Boycott] get this, man.
In the league there would be no mercy, so why should this be any different ? "
