Steyn probably didn't deserve to be given the 'Jacob Zuma boo' but with such history so tantalisingly close, the crowd only echoed the rest of the country's sentiment that it would be worth risking losing to have a crack at winning, especially after it had seemed in the bag... several times.

I'm pretty sure people would have butchered him had he gotten out - which was a very realistic possibility. It's not an easy wicket to bat on if you bowl wicket to wicket. JP tried to force the issue and got out, for eg.

the improbability of not scoring 8 more runs when you have scored 450 previously... in the fourth innings of a test match..which is improbable itself...is to say the least, improbable. but then you spit in the collective face of the fates to save an ignominious draw..when the fates had gravitated to you by your early grandeur.

to settle for a draw and not try for a win for the ages or an uplifting loss...which would not be a loss at all..is to ebb away.. slink away really... when the golden calf lay just one last herculean joomp away.

but in the end dat is the graeme smith nous...journeyman leader, with safety fus' hungry belly attitude that should be the feature of people deprived of chance in life suddenly faced with opportunity, summarily grab as much as they can and flee, ignoring the fact that if they sat a moment considered the situation with a view to maximise, they cud end up with far more that what they flee with.

but to excuse them they had never seen such largesse' and their limited perspective made them aware only of immediate needs relative to sting of the current hunger nipping at their bellies.

but dat is not Smith.  Smith has supped full at the table of wealth and opportunity all his life.  he has had a long career and he is full of experience now..so much so that no cricket situation should phase him.  he should have an answer for all that come up..and a situation in his team dat can facilitate quick and decisive response to any eventuality on the cricket field

Greame Smith is  not all ah dat I am happy to say.  Smith is ah cricket impse. with the opportunity of a king he responded like a churl.  but he has always so responded.  why are we sooprised ::confused::

I think most people here misses the point totally. I do not think the captain or coach had any input in the decision. I think the decision were made for them by the betting fraternity and they just had to implement it. No team will or should take a draw when a win is so near. That is my humble opinion.

Yeah right - lets ignore the fight they put in on a track where it's bloody hard to score a draw. No one gave them a chance.
And they've chased down huge targets, viz. Oz in both tests and ODIs. Sorry to get in the way of your irrational hatred though.

irrational ::confused::

Irrationality is not displayed here by me.  you must be South African, strong emotional attachment to that team...so much so you cant deal with anything critical of them.

I don't like much about Apartheid and ANC south Africa.  I don't see the difference.  RSA is still a very hateful place and its cricket reflects that.  excuse me but I am not bothered much by what you think..certainly not about your opinions above.

RSA shud have gone for the win.  that they did not reflects their ordinary safety first approach that has been evident about them all along.  and when not safety first we get Smith's real cricket irrationality.... declaring to lose.

my only regret is that they met only a declined west indies, at the tail end of our great period.  I would have loved to have seen a confrontation with our greats and theirs..including Donald and Steyn, Philander, Ntini against Haynes and Greenidge, Richardson and Richards, Gomes Dujon etc

grow up kyle!

anyway its quite normal to express ones dislike of something.  I see people hate things for no reason at all..they just dont like something or someone.  I have given some facts to underpin my dislike of RSA.  there is a lot more.  my dislike in not unreasonable
