Pakistan have won the toss and will bat first.

Pakistan's team is unchanged. South Africa have two changes to their team - the forced replacement of Hashim Amla, whose wife still hasn't given birth to their second child, by Dean Elgar, and the hoped for replacement of Robin Peterson with Imran Tahir.

Pakistan 60/6 after 25.4 overs. Two wickets to Dale Steyn, one to Morne Morkel and importantly, three wickets to Imran Tahir. He's definitely sending a message to the South African selectors.

Pakistan out for 99 in only 36.4 overs. Five wickets to Imran Tahir.

I think the commentators said this was the first fifer by a South African spinner since 2009. Hopefully there will be many more for Tahir.

So did Pakistan underestimate Imran Tahir, or old habit of conceding wickets to low prolific bowlers caught them again?

I would have to check Dubai pitch cricket results for spinners ...

Smithy needs to stay there and get that Ton to boost his self confidence !

He has India to deal with next and can only hope that West Indies "soften " them up  :-[

Tahir always seems to do well in Asian conditions. He was very successful during the world cup too. The problem is to get him to carry that form over to playing in other countries.

Of course the selectors should have been aware of that when picking the team for the first test.  :(
