Auto giant Tata Motors is one step closer to actualizing engines that run on compressed air for the commercial market. The company holds the license to build Motor Development International’s (MDI) zero pollution engines in India.Tata Motors sated that the “proof of the technical concept†phase is now complete and has been successfully demonstrated in two branded vehicles. Now, the motor company is moving into phase two of the program which involves “completing detailed development of the compressed air engine into specific vehicle and stationary applications.â€
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

T his makes sense , the only problem that I can see is whether the compressor would be operated with coal or petroleum generated electricity. If the air can be compressed with solar panels electricity , then it is a pollution free cheap means of transport.
Research like this would never be permitted in the west because the petroleum lobby is too powerful.
Diesels engines can be cheaply converted to run on coconut or vegitable oils but this is not encouraged , that powerful oil lobby again .

well that makes sense they (combined) do generate a lot of "hot air"

compressed air engines has been around for a long time , the only problem is its efficency . There are two types of these engines , the linear type where air is pumped on to a finned flywheel device that causes rotary motion The other type is where is when compressed air probably heated , is forced on to pistons in a chamber resulting in reciprocating or up and down motion as in the internal combustion engine that is available today.
Power tools and even. your leaf blower converts compressed air into rotary motion.
Great for TATA a dynamic company , maker of the Nano

Your lack of knowelege on motor vechicle engines is surprising , A purely electric vehicle like say a golf cart or forklift converts the rotary motion of the electric motor into mechanical energy and in a compressed air car , the electric motor would be substituted with a compressor.
T he compression ignition engine of Induction ,Compression , Power and Exhaust would be made obsolete by TATA.
