It's never simple, and I see both sides of the coin. Each is stretching the meaning to cover his or her own biases. As a former high school teacher, I know people wore hoodies and "hid" their identities by pulling the hoods over their head. In my school there were white guys who did this, too, although I do remember seeing more black guys doing it. We didn't allow students to wear hats or headgear unless it was for a religious purpose. We need to know who is doing what to whom for the sake of safety for the larger population. This is the underlying issue: Safety for the larger population. People who hide their faces represent danger, whether it be a red bandana handkerchief, a pillow case, a stocking or ski mask, a Ku Klux Klan white sheet or a hoodie. If I can't see your face, and you're in my space, I'm going to err on the side of saving my life, dude! I don't care what color you are.
