Before any thought of an election let's get our constitution in order if not we could be doing this again in the very near future. Because of the nature of our politics and our population make up we could be having close elections for the forseeable future again because of the nature of our politics we could be having elections every 2 years and we simply can't afford it. Indeed this is a reasonable suggestion but can they work together? Guyana needs rational thinkers at this juncture not the opportunistic vultures that would pounce on our vulnerability I guess they may have already started

It seems we are heading into 'silly season' which is normally the case when General Elections are incumbent. This time around it may be extra silly given the context of the political situation in Guyana.

First, university educated politicians and lawyers from our great country went all the way to the Caribbean Court of Justice to make sure 33 is greater than 32. Secondly, it now appears that our constitution needs to be decoded by hieroglyphics professors to validate if house to house registration is mandatory. According to our current constitution (I checked) it is not.

While all of this has been going on, GECOM should have been preparing for the General Elections to ensure they are ready to mobilize. Mr. Granger has already stated that all parties should abide by the CCJ ruling, so there should now be no excuses for further procrastination. Since the ruling government has expressed confidence in winning the elections, then they should be ready to walk the walk and obey the constitution. Mobilize GECOM and get the ball rolling! Let the polls do the talking now.

The CCJ ruled that Patterson appointment is unconstitutional. The implication is that his position has been effectively terminated immediately upon the CCJ rendering its decision. Yet, he is still in office. The CCJ upheld the Chief Justice decision which meant the Cabinet resigned after the NCM was passed. Yet, the Ministers are still in office. Granger position has been terminated effective March 21, yet he is still playing President. In others parts of the world, there would have been protests until the President vacates his office but not in Guyana where 34 was the majority of 65. Chase dem squatters out of office.

New political party A New and United Guyana (ANUG) has challenged President David Granger’s labelling of the expired voters’ list as “bloated, expired and corrupt,” saying that the legal process in place to add newly qualified voters and remove the dead has worked

Mr Granger will not accept the consequential orders to be issued by the CCJ. He is preparing for a constitutional show down.

The matter is simple. His government lost a NCM in December 2018. TheSpeaker of the Parliament so ruled and so did the Apex court. They also accepted it until advent of the perverted mathematical formula.

The constitution calls for the immediate resignation of the government and the holding of elections within 90 days. Plus the need for the President to dissolve Parliament.

The coalition leadership has utilized the court system to frustrate the enforcement of the requisite constitutional provisions for not only 3 months but for 6 months, and are likely to get another 3 months extension. What more does an illegal government want?

My understanding is that the internal PADRES poll that the PNC commissioned showed that the coalition would lose the next election and that the PPP will win. So the PNC leadership is trying their best to continue to stall the process and seek methods (whether legal or otherwise) how they could turn around their fortunes.

The Granger government has fallen and yet they grab on tenaciously to power. This is bullying to the highest degree. And if they can’t get their way, their members are threatening upheaval. People do take them seriously because they have a history of carrying out post election violence and using incendiary rhetoric.

Let’s see how they will respond to the consequential orders! We will soon know if they will take the country into a full dictatorship or allow it to continue as a democracy.
