A court in India has sentenced a man to death over the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that left nearly 3,000 people dead.
Yashpal Singh was earlier found guilty of killing two Sikh men in Delhi. Another man, Naresh Sherawat, was given life imprisonment.
Sikhs were targeted in the capital and elsewhere after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by one of her Sikh bodyguards.

Sikhism was born in Punjab, a region that was divided between the two countries
 during partition in 1947.
India and Pakistan have agreed to construct a new border entry point and road to allow Sikh pilgrims
from India to visit a shrine in Pakistan.
The Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur is one of Sikhism's holiest shrines
The religion's founder, Guru Nanak, spent the last 18 years of his life there.
The decision coincides with the 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak's birth.

Tens of thousands of Indian farmers have marched to the parliament in the capital, Delhi
to highlight the deepening agrarian crisis.
They arrived on Thursday from across the country and held a rally demanding better crop prices, drought relief and loan waivers.
Indian agriculture has been blighted by a depleting water table and declining productivity for decades.
This is the fourth such farmers' protest in the past year.

A statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the famed Indian independence leader, has been removed from a university campus in Ghana's capital, Accra.
University of Ghana lecturers began a petition for its removal shortly after it was unveiled in 2016
by India's former President Pranab Mukherjee.
The petition said Gandhi was "racist" and African heroes should be put first.

In his early writings he referred to black South Africans as "kaffirs" - a highly offensive racist slur.
He also said that Indians were "infinitely superior" to black people.
Lecturers and students celebrated in front of the newly empty plinth after the statue was removed

A troubling trend of rape videos going viral in India
has led many to believe that smartphones and easy access to violent porn
coupled with a lack of sex education
could fuel sexual violence.
Earlier this year, a video showing a group of teenage boys trying to rip the clothes off a young woman
was shared extensively on WhatsApp in India.
In it, she is urging them to stop, using the term "bhaiyya" (Hindi for brother)
but they are jeering, laughing, clearly enjoying themselves.
