On July 16, 1973, the army shot, left bleeding and murdered two young men at #63, Corentyne. Their names were Bolanauth Parmanand and Jagan Parmessar. They were not young men with letters behind their name. They were not wealthy and nor were their parents. They were children from humble family and humble surroundings. They had not committed any crime and they were not wanted by the police. But they were gunned down for bravely standing up for their freedom and for the freedom of ALL GUYANESE. They did not want money or fame. They simply wanted their votes and the votes of their brothers and sisters to be counted. For that they were murdered by soldiers in Burnham's army, an army whose leaders included David Granger, the present President of Guyana. He claimed he was not there, but he cannot separate himself from leadership of the army that murdered tow innocent young men. Even though he claimed he was not there he has said now as President that the army was simply responding to thugs. I am proud that I was one of the young people that stood in the face of the army's terrorism that day, as soldiers placed bayonets on our heads at Albion. I was but a young boy and all I wanted was that people's votes got counted. But Granger saw us all as thugs. Yes for him the solders that killed Bolanauth Parmanand and Jagan Parmessar were heroes. The innocent young, brave men were thugs to Granger. They might still be seen as thugs by Granger and APNU+AFC. Today, Nagamootoo and Ramjattan, with whom I have stood at that same sacred site in tribute to FREEDOM FIGHTERS, stand instead with Granger. They disavow the struggles of so many among us who bled, sweated and gave our lives to the struggle for freedom and dignity. As many thousands of us today pay tribute to genuine Guyanese FREEDOM FIGHERS, Nagamootoo and Ramjattan, stand in shame, betraying those ordinary men that will always stand head and shoulder above them. More than ever before we need to remember that many people gave their blood, sweat and their lives for freedom in Guyana. That FREEDOM is at stake today. Our democracy is confronted with the same enemy that denied Guyana FREEDOM for almost three decades and in so doing made many of us paupers. But the flame of heroism is alight at the Benab at #63, Corentyne. Whereever we are in Guyana and around the world let us take a few seconds to salute our BALLOT BOX MARTYRS. Let us commit that Guyana will not enter another era of dictatorship.

For more than 40 years starting from when he was just a teenager and until 2015 Nagamootoo praised Cheddi Jagan, called him his and the nation's PA, called him the indisputable Father of the Nation and a genuine National Hero. He also was unequivocal in condemning Burnham as a dictator, a person who took away the freedom and democratic rights of citizens, who rigged elections, who made Guyana one of the most poverty stricken countries. Nagas claimed Burnham's people kidnapped him, beat him, jailed him etc. Last week this same Nagamootoo because he has now tasted power courtesy of Burnham's party, stood in honor of Burnham. Complete transformation and dissing Cheddi. There is a word for it. It is a betrayal. In Guyana, we call it Neemakaram.

You go back THAT far to find two Indians who were shot? You could have looked at recent news stories within the Indian fishing community where such things take place on a regular basis.
