Current practice in India is praying on the weak and poor.

Past Berbice "apan Jhaat" practice was trying to get people to vote for the "Indian" parties.  I said parties because that included the Muslim party, the Indian party and to some degree the PPP.

so to conclude there is NO real diff. between the 2 terms

Currently used by Modi " Ghaar Vapassi " for political support.

And berbice  Cheddi " Apan Jhaat " for political support.

A difference of over 50 years  ;) Cheddi was ahead of his time
